A Match Race is a one-on-one duel of strategy and tactics and the objective is simple – to be the first to cross the finish line.
The winner of each Match gets one point the loser gets zero.

    AMERICA'S CUP MATCH

    In the America’s Cup there is no second, either you win or you lose and it has been like this for over 170 years. On the 6th of March the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand will face the winner of the PRADA Cup in a 13-race Match. The first team to score seven points will become the Defender of the 37th America’s Cup.

    PRADA CUP

    15 JANUARY - 22 FEBRUARY

    Only the Challengers Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, New York Yacht Club American Magic, and INEOS TEAM UK compete in the PRADA Cup and the winner will challenge the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the America's Cup Match.

    The first stage of the PRADA Cup consists of four Round Robins of three races each. The Challenger with the highest score at the end of the Round Robins will automatically access the PRADA Cup Final; the remaining two teams will race again in a seven-race Semi-Final (winner is the first team that scores 4 points).

    The 13-race Final between the two leading teams, will start on the 13th of February, the first team to score seven points will win the PRADA Cup and face the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand.

    PRADA ACWS Auckland & PRADA Christmas Race

    17-20 DECEMBER

    During the three days of the PRADA ACWS Auckland (17th-19th of December) there will be four races per day of Round Robin competition when all of the four teams will race each other twice. The winner of each match gets one point the loser gets zero.

    The fourth day (20th of December) the PRADA Christmas Race will kick off and will be comprised of two knock out stages. The first stage consists of two head to head match ups, the winners of each will progress to the final, the losers to a 3rd & 4th match which will help decide the final rankings. The pairing of the PRADA Christmas Race Semi-Finals will be decided by the results of the PRADA ACWS Auckland double Round Robin.

    During the three days of the PRADA ACWS Auckland (17th to 19th of December) there have been four races per day of Round Robin competition and all four teams raced each other twice. Emirates Team New Zealand won the event with 5 wins and only 1 loss, second came American Magic (4 wins – 2 loss), third Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (3 wins – 3 losses) and fourth INEOS TEAM UK (0 win – 6 losses).


    The fourth day (20th of December) the PRADA Christmas Race kicked off. But there was not enough wind to complete the four races of the day. The event was scheduled to be comprised of two knock out stages: two head to head match ups with the winners of each progressing to the final, and the losers to a 3rd & 4th match.
